A Hull man took on all five of Britain’s best quizzers on a hit new TV show – and very nearly beat them.

Ronnie Watson, a park ranger from Hull, stepped forward to take on The Sinnerman, The Vixen, The Governess, The Dark Destroyer and The Beast in ITV’s new show from the makers of The Chase, Beat The Chasers, on Wednesday evening.

The show sees contestants take on all five contestants, if they choose to do so.

The more chasers they go against, the more money they could win.

Ronnie decided to try his chances against all five.

Dressed in a very colourful floral shirt, Ronnie tried his best and very nearly beat The Chasers – and was just a few seconds away from taking home £50,000.

Before answering some tough questions, Ronnie said he had “just come for the experience”.

The chasers weren’t without some fighting talk though.

Talking to host Bradley Walsh, The Vixen, Jenny Ryan, said: “I’m thinking he’s come thinking his outfit will throw us.

“It is confusing me just a little bit.”

Bradley said: “They beat you by only six seconds.”

The Chasers added: “He played really well.”

His bravery in taking on all five chasers won him respect, but others said if he had been more cautious he could have easily walked away with £20,000.

One said: “I already love Ronnie in #BeatTheChasers just there to have a fab time and loving life!!”

“Wow he’s brave!!!! This is for £50k. All 5 chasers. Good luck Ronnie,” said another.
