According to a new biography, Queen’s late frontman, Freddie Mercury, allegedly had a secret daughter in 1976.

The biography in question is Love, Freddie, which is set for publication in September of this year. The book was written by famed biographer Lesley-Ann Jones and an anonymous woman known as “B”. In the book, B claims that she was conceived by accident when Mercury allegedly had an affair with the wife of a friend in the mid-1970s.

According to the biography, Freddie Mercury had a close relationship with his daughter right up until his tragic death in 1991. B claims that before Mercury’s death, he gave her about 17 different volumes of personal journals, which she has kept a secret from the public. Now, it looks like at least a portion of those journals will be made public in the upcoming groundbreaking biography.

The book claims that B is currently 48 years old and works in the medical field somewhere in Europe. Love, Freddie contains a handwritten letter from the woman in question. That letter details quite clearly why no one has ever heard of her until now. Apparently, her existence was only known to Mercury and a select few in his inner circle.

Is There Legitimacy Behind B’s Claims About Freddie Mercury?

“Freddie Mercury was and is my father,” B wrote in the book. “We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life. He adored me and was devoted to me. The circumstances of my birth may seem, by most people’s standards, unusual and even outrageous. That should come as no surprise. It never detracted from his commitment to love and look after me. He cherished me like a treasured possession.”

In the biography, Lesley-Ann Jones writes that Mercury began journaling shortly after he found out that the unnamed wife of his friend was pregnant. In the journals, Mercury allegedly details his life in Zanzibar, India, and London. According to the book, he continued to journal after B was born, right up until his health deteriorated significantly in late July of 1991.

“After more than three decades of lies, speculation, and distortion, it is time to let Freddie speak,” B says in a letter included in the biography. “Those who have been aware of my existence kept his greatest secret out of loyalty to Freddie.”

“My instinct was to doubt everything, but I am absolutely sure she is not a fantasist,” said biographer Lesley-Ann Jones, who noted that B contacted her over three years ago. “No one could have faked all this. Why would she have worked with me for three and a half years, never demanding anything?”

As always, it’s important to note that the claims in Love, Freddie have not been proven. Still, I can imagine it will be a fascinating read.
