Carrie Underwood Walked Into a Quiet Church and No One Expected This — Then “O Holy Night” Began, Her Husband Watched in Silence… and the Moment Turned Sacred

Some Nashvillie residents attending a 2024 Christmas event at their local church were surprised by the sweet sound of Carrie Underwood’s voice.

Carrie Underwood has always been outspoken about her religion. Being a Christian is part of who Underwood is, and her church is actually the first place she ever sang in front of other people.

While Underwood is considered a country singer, she really leaned into her faith a few years ago and released a Christmas album, My Gift, in 2020 and a hymns-only album, My Savior, two years later.

My Savior earned her a Best Roots Gospel Album Grammy in 2022.

Rolling Hills Community Church in Franklin, Tennessee was treated to a Carrie Underwood concert of sorts the same summer when the “Good Girl” singer went on stage to perform “Goodness of God” with the church band.

She wasn’t announced as a performer, so she completely surprised everyone in attendance.

Underwood did this once again for the church’s annual Christmas show, Sounds of Christmas, which took place on December 14, 2024

She was not announced as a performer, in fact a different American Idol singer was, Season 14 runner-up Clark Beckham.

For just $5 a ticket, church-goers were able to see two surprise songs from the Grammy Award-winner. She performed “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “O Holy Night,” both of which appear on My Gift.

Wearing a modest green sparkly top and black skirt, Underwood showcased her incredible vocals on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” The TikTok video cut off before the applause really began, but we’re sure she got a standing ovation for it!

Jeff Beck at North Sea Jazz, 2006 — When a Guitar Became a Human Voice For those who don’t play guitar, it’s hard to explain what Jeff Beck was doing on that North Sea Jazz stage in 2006. Watching him perform “People Get Ready” wasn’t like watching a musician execute technique. It felt closer to witnessing thought — emotion — translated directly into sound.
