12-year-old James Miller from Rye stunned the judges with a superb performance on Britain’s Got Talent.
His delivery of Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked had the judges immediately on their feet as he finished.
Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, KSI and special guest judge Stacey Soloman all gave his performance an emphatic yes on Saturday night.

Amanda Holden, who was heard to say “I’ve got goosebumps” as he sang, concluded: “I just cannot believe that a little sausage like you has the pipes for something so huge. Congratulations!”
Stacey Soloman described his falsetto as phenomenal: “Your parents must be absolutely buzzing.”

The judges agreed that he was a star in the making, “smashing” the song’s “magic moment.”
Their words will come as massive encouragement towards James’ one big dream: to become a singer professionally.

The show was recorded last October and there were certainly nerves, but home-schooled James was confident he offered the right song: “I love it. It is so powerful. I think it shows off my voice quite well. We went to see the show Wicked (that the song comes from). The show was amazing and I think it helped me.”

As for the recording: “I loved the experience. I was very nervous but the best way to overcome nerves is just to take deep breaths and to talk to people. I think that calms you down and I think I did pretty good. I just love being in the moment and the judges were very nice people. It was very exciting.”

James has sung ever since he can remember: “When I listen to music it makes me feel so joyful and it makes me want to sing like that. I just love to sing. I think I started singing when I was two or three, and when I’m singing I just feel so wonderful. I get lots of feedback from the audience.”
James has done local competitions, and he joined a theatre group around four years ago, Mad Fish Performing Arts in Bexhill: “I love pop music and musical theatre as well, and I also love a bit of Maria Carey.”

And he knows exactly where his life is going. There’s nothing else he wants to do except become a singer.
James was inspired to go on Britain’s Got Talent after watching Sydnie Christmas on the show.
“I just love her voice. It was just amazing. Her vibrato is incredible. It was very powerful and she has got personality. That inspired me to want to go onto the show.”

There was an initial audition process. The family sent in some self-tapes of a few songs and managed to get through to the taped audition for which they had to travel to Birmingham.
