A mom finally hit her breaking point after watching her teenage daughter come home in tears day after day because classmates mocked her for having a “racist” name. What started as small jokes turned into full-on bullying, and the girl couldn’t take it anymore. So the mom did something huge—she let her daughter change her name completely. No drama, no hesitation. Just a mother choosing her kid’s peace over everything else.

A Tennessee mom allowed her teenage daughter to change her birth name, Dixie, after kids at school mocked her for it — and accused her of “racism” and supporting the Civil War-era South.

“She gets made fun of for it,” Danielle Remp, 35, wrote on TikTok — explaining why she let her 16-year-old to scrap her given name. “I said yes, no questions asked!”

Dixie, who now goes by Skye, said she was constantly bullied and taunted about the name between classes.

“They call me things like ‘Dixie Dust,’ or ‘Dixie Normous,’” the high school student told Today.com.“They just give it all sorts of crude meanings, and they’ll call me that in the hallway.”

She said her dad named her Dixie when she was born in 2008, but her mom wanted to name her Skye, which now feels more “like me.”

The term Dixie became after a song titled “Dixie’s Land” became the unofficial anthem of the Confederacy in the 19th century.

The word has become controversial in some circles in recent years because of its association with the South’s pro-slavery past. The band The Dixie Chicks, for example, changed their name to The Chicks in 2020 to “meet this moment” after catching heat about it.

Remp, who works at  Burger King, is now saving up $200 to cover the legal name change for her daughter.

“She’s a good kid,” Remp said. “She’s doing great in school, she doesn’t give me trouble. So if changing her name makes her feel better about herself, why would I say no?”

Remp’s TikTok post raked in hundreds of comments, with some observers criticizing her for bending to her teenager’s whim.

“What no. Teach your child resilience. If you let her change her name, what else will she want to change about herself?” one person wrote.

“I’m Dixie! I got bullied but now I love my name,” another commenter said.

Others cheered the move, saying “everyone should get one free name change.”

“As someone who was horrendously bullied for their birth name growing up and changed it as an adult, thank you,” another person added.

“WHEN COMEDY BREAKS CHARACTER — AND THE WORLD LAUGHS TOGETHER.” Harvey Korman tried. Oh, he tried so hard. The twitching lip… the hand clamped over his mouth… the desperate attempt to stare at the ceiling and pretend Tim Conway wasn’t right next to him. But there was no escape. As the slow-drawling, slow-walking sheriff, Conway weaponized silence — stretching every blink, every pause, every tiny movement until Harvey cracked wide open. The “outlaw” beside him dissolved first, then the entire cast, then the audience. By the end, the sketch wasn’t acting — it was pure, uncontrollable human laughter. That’s the Carol Burnett Show at its best: comedy so real it breaks the script… and everyone with it.
